Statement of Philosophy and Objectives

The purpose of Potomac Nursery School is to provide a nursery school program that will benefit the child, the parents, and the community. We are committed to the development of a well-rounded child with a positive self-image. We believe that exposure to peers in a social atmosphere and the development of skills through the use of appropriate instructional and ma­nipulative materials, in an environment specifically designed for children, will help us to realize that commitment. We will achieve our goals and objectives by implementing the following:

•  promote health, physical growth, and motor development

•  increase independence

•  strengthen inner emotional controls

•  recognize reasonable limits and influence growth towards self-discipline

•  foster security with adults                                                                        

•  encourage self-confidence

•  stimulate liking for children of different ages and backgrounds

•  promote language skills

•  free self-expression in art, music, and dance

•  broaden intellectual horizons

•  help children to observe, investigate, seek, and acquire information, and think critically.

Classes are established with the well-being of the individual child uproots in mind. We take into consideration staff-child ratio and mandatory training of teachers in Early Childhood Education, augmented by a loving, child-oriented staff.
